Policy Contact: Vice President for Instruction

Policy Title: CAREER-TECHNICAL LIVE WORK POLICY FOR THE COLLISION REPAIR TECHNOLOGY PROGRAM For East Central Community College to be in compliance with the state career-technical program work policy, student work projects must be selected on the basis of the program goals and expected student outcomes. Student projects must be selected carefully in order to utilize instructional time, student effort, and instructor involvement effectively. Consequently, only those jobs that meet the specific requirements for teaching various aspects of the current Collision Repair Technology objectives will be considered for student project material. New vehicles use quite different technology when compared to older vehicles. Older vehicles, particularly antiques, require much more time and effort to repair because of the deterioration of painted surfaces, rusted metal and fasteners, accumulated damage, the difficulty in locating replacement parts, excessive tear down, and parts storage requirements; therefore, they will not be considered as appropriate training material. 1. Only vehicles twelve years of age or newer will be considered for training material. This policy may be waived for students actively enrolled in the Collision Repair program, but only if the instructor sees a need for it and agrees that their vehicle can help them meet the objectives of the course and be completed in a timely manner. The policy may also be waived by the instructor, at his discretion only, for special student interest building projects. For example, restoring an older vehicle for display and to aid in recruiting. 2. Pickup trucks and vans will be considered up through one ton in size provided that they fit into the paint booth if painting is required. Larger trucks and buses will not be considered. 3. Recreational vehicles and equipment, sporting equipment, commercial trucks, equipment, and off road vehicles will not be considered as appropriate training material. 4. Farm tractors and other farm equipment, including trailers, will not be considered as appropriate training material. TRAINING JOB ACCEPTANCE POLICY
