Policy Title: DUAL CREDIT - ACADEMIC
Participation in Dual Credit courses at East Central Community College (ECCC) allows high school students an opportunity to earn academic credit towards meeting high school graduation requirements and towards the completion of an ECCC degree. The transcripting of credit for Dual Credit courses applied towards high school graduation requirements is completely discretionary at the secondary school. Dual Credit courses are generally taught on the premises of the secondary school and taught by an instructor approved by ECCC. Students may be granted admission status at ECCC in Dual Credit courses while concurrently enrolled in high school if they meet the following admission requirements: 1. Have completed a minimum of fourteen (14) core high school units (students who do not have fourteen (14) core high school units but who have a composite score of thirty (30) on the ACT assessment may be considered for enrollment); 2. Have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale for high school work completed; and 3. Have the unconditional recommendation of their high school principal or guidance counselor. The credit earned at ECCC by students admitted under the Dual Credit Policy will be available for transfer or for meeting the requirements for graduation from the College after the student has received her/his high school diploma. No student shall earn more than 28 semester credit hours through the Dual Credit/Dual Enrollment program.
