5. Must have a minimum score of 10 on the TABE reading test or 16 on the ACT® taken after October, 1989 or 12 taken before October, 1989. Qualified applicants for the EMT Basic Program will be considered on a competitive basis. Meeting the minimum admission criteria does not guarantee admission into the program. The number of students admitted into the program will vary according to resources available. Post-Acceptance Requirements for Selected Students Any student accepted into the program must pay the required fee for the fingerprinting and criminal history background check. Payments are made to the ECCC Business Office and a copy of the receipt must be presented to the Office of Healthcare Education. Post acceptance requirements for students selected include the following. 1. satisfactory criminal history background check; 2. physical examination including the ECCC ADA Core Requirements; 3. measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) (2-series) immunizations, or positive titer; 4. Hepatitis B vaccines (3- series), positive titer, or declination statement; 5. varicella vaccination (2-series), or positive titer; and 6. Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support certification (within last 6 months). All Healthcare Education Division students must submit to and satisfactorily complete a criminal background check. Admission may be rescinded and reversed based on review of the students’ criminal background check. Students who refuse to submit to a criminal background check or submit an unsatisfactory criminal background check review will not be eligible for admission into the program. Students who are dismissed from a Healthcare Education Division program may seek admission into another educational program. All students must agree to the 2-step tuberculosis skin testing and influenza vaccination as scheduled by the college. If a student is allergic to substances used for TB skin testing, the student must submit evidence of QuantifEron QuantiFERON®-TB Gold In-Tube blood test (within last 12-months) at students’ expense). All students must agree to be randomly tested for drugs at any point and time while enrolled in any healthcare program. The student is responsible for all expenses associated with testing. *NOTE: The initial drug screening and 2-step TB skin test is included in course fees. Acceptance Criteria Applicants’ files must be complete and submitted to the Office of Admissions & Records and the Office of Healthcare Education to be considered for acceptance into the program. The student is responsible for assuring all data is correct and received by both offices before the application deadline. Students admitted to the course must adhere to the policies in the current East Central Community College Catalog and the Emergency Medical Technology Student Handbook. This includes, but is not limited to tuberculosis (TB) testing is required for all admissions. Testing will be provided after students enter the program and prior to clinical. SURGICAL TECHNOLOGY PROGRAM Surgical Technology is an instructional program that prepares an individual to serve as a member of the surgical team to work with surgeons, anesthesiologists, certified registered nurse anesthetists, registered nurses, physician’s assistants and other surgical personnel in delivering patient care and assuming appropriate responsibilities before, during, and after surgery. This program includes the education of all aspects of surgical technology including the role of second assistant and circulator. Students who complete the two-year program of study may be awarded an Associate of Applied Science degree. Qualified students will be required to take the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting to become a Certified Surgical Technologist. Qualified students at schools without programmatic accreditation may sit for the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT).
