Acceptance Criteria Applicants’ files must be complete and submitted to the Office of Admissions & Records and the Office of Healthcare Education to be considered for acceptance into the program. The student is responsible for assuring all data is correct and received by both offices before the application deadline. Students admitted to the nursing course must adhere to the policies in the current East Central Community College Catalog and the Nursing Student Handbook. PRACTICAL NURSING PROGRAM The Practical Nursing (PN) program prepares individuals for a career providing general nursing care. General practical nursing care requires basic knowledge in sociological, psychological, behavioral, physical, biological sciences, and competence in specific nursing procedures. The care does not include substantive knowledge, skills, and judgment that is required for the Registered Nurse. (2010, Mississippi Nursing Practice Law). Individuals in the Practical Nursing program will perform nursing care within the scope of practice under the direction of a licensed Registered Nurse, Advanced Practice Nurse, Physician, or Dentist. Students who successfully complete program requirements may be eligible to apply to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN®). A State Board of Nursing can deny an individual’s application to take the NCLEX-PN® based on legal grounds such as criminal history or requirements for licensure to work in a specific state. The Mississippi Community College Board accredits the East Central Community College Practical Nursing program. East Central Community College admits students into the Practical Nursing (PN) Program in August of each year.
