EAST CENTRAL COMMUNITY COLLEGE

HEALTHCARE EDUCATION Healthcare professional programs are comprised of diverse career options where individuals provide health care and support for the public. All programs require individuals to embrace and maintain a high moral and ethical values and demonstrate professionalism. All candidates seeking enrollment in a healthcare program are required to complete admission criteria and submit fingerprints for criminal history background checks. Completion of requirements does not guarantee admission to a healthcare program. Criminal History Background Checks All Healthcare Education Division applicants will receive the ECCC Criminal History Background policy, rights, procedures, and forms requiring completion. The Office of Healthcare Education will schedule applicants to submit agreements of understanding and consent forms prior to the scheduled fingerprinting procedure. The applicant’s fingerprints are collected and electronically submitted to the Mississippi Department of Public Safety and run through the Mississippi Criminal Information and Federal Bureau of Investigation databases to assess criminal history background checks for noncriminal justice purposes. ECCC performs criminal history record checks pursuant to, but not inclusive to, Section 37-29-232 of the Mississippi Code of 1972, Annotated, Section 43-11-13 of the Mississippi Code of 1972. An applicant is disqualified for entry into a healthcare program if the person has ever been convicted of a felony, or pleaded guilty to, or pleaded no contest to a felony of possession or sale of drugs, murder, manslaughter, armed robbery, rape, sexual battery, sex offence listed in Section 45-33-23 (f), child abuse, grand larceny, burglary, gratification of lust or aggravated assault, felonious abuse and/or battery of a vulnerable adult. The list of disqualifying events is not all-inclusive and may include certain types of misdemeanors. Applicants must submit a satisfactory background report prior to program required participation in clinical agencies. Any applicant with a disqualifying event/s is responsible for expenses and removal of all event/s. Program admission may be rescinded by the Dean of Healthcare based on review of events in a criminal background check. Applicants who refuse to submit to fingerprinting and a criminal background check or do not pass the criminal background check review, will have their application rescinded from the healthcare program. The applicant may seek admission into another non-healthcare educational program at East Central Community College. ASSOCIATE DEGREE NURSING PROGRAM The Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) program is founded on nursing theory and practice to offer learning and professional opportunities in academic and practice environments for qualified students pursuing a career as a registered nurse. The program supports the development of knowledge, skills, and attitudes in competency-based learning environments to promote lifelong learning as a registered nurse in the nursing profession. The registered nurse performs assessments, diagnoses, planning, interventions, and evaluations in promoting and maintaining health and restoration; management of individual responses to illness, injury, or infirmity; and achievement of dignified deaths (2010, Mississippi Nurse Practice Law). Successful graduates of the program receive an Associate of Applied Science Degree (AAS). Graduates who meet requirements for the State Board of Nursing may be eligible to take the National Council of Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN®). The State Board of Nursing may deny any application for licensure due to criminal history, commission of fraud or deceit in the application process, or addiction to alcohol or other drugs. The Associate Degree Nursing Program is accredited by the Board of Trustees of the Mississippi Institutions of Higher Learning (MS-IHL) and the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN).
