Five East Central Community College workforce education students received awards at the 51 st annual SkillslJSA National Skill and Leadership Conference held June 24-25 in Louisville, Ky. Blake Faulkner of Carthage finished fifth in the nation in Carpentry. Jay Riser of Forest finished seventh in Cabinet Making, Asif Zaffar of Philadelphia finished 11th in Sheet Metal, Chad Simoneau of Louin finished 12th in Plumbing. and William Milner ofLena finished 16th in Electrical Construction Wiring. More than 6.000 students participated in I00 hands-on skill and leadership competitions during the two-day event. 'Tm extremely proud of these students for their performances at the national level;· said Wayne Eason. director of workforce development at ECCC. '"They demonstrated that their ECCC education had prepared them to compete head to head against the finest students from across the nation... The East Central students advanced to the national competition after finishing in first place in their respective categories at the Mississippi SkillsUSA State Competition held in Jackson this spring.
