He continued his remarks by reminiscing about the fear he had during his first week at East Central and how he chose joy as opposed to worry or dread, which in turn led to a great college experience. "I crune to East Central in hopes of receiving a good edu– cation that would equip me for further learning," Allen said. "I am leaving East Central better prepared not only academi– cally, but spiritually as well. Thank you to all of the faculty and administration for investing your time in us stu– dents on campus and espe– cially me. In addition to Allen, those participating in the program included graduating sopho– mores Leah Ferguson of Philadelphia, invocation; Ramone Tate of Bay St. Louis, benediction; and Haleigh West and Makenzie Rowzee, both of Hickory, who presented the musical selection "Whenever You Remember." Addressing his fellow grad– uates during East Central Community College's 86th commencement, held Friday at the Neshoba County Coliseum in Philadelphia, Zach Allen of Louisville encouraged his classmates to overcome their fears. "Ed Helms said, 'Don't be afraid of fear. Because il sharpens you, it challenges you, it makes you stronger; and when you run away from fear, you also run away from the opportunity to be your best possible self.· Fear is a major obstacle in the world today. Whether it is a fear of trying new things or what people think of us, in the end, it all doesn't mal1er," said Allen, who is an ECCC Hall of Fame
