EC Lady Warriors young, talented Lots of new faces will

In order to do that, the Lady Warriors have to finish in the top two slots in divi– sion play. "This group of young ladies is very competitive. They are a very close-knit group and are hungry for championships. We expect this team to represent EC softball and uphold the tradition for which the Lady Warriors are known." Only four sophomores return from the 2014 team, which dropped a best-of-three series with I tawamba Community College during first-round playoffs and completed the season with a 33-16 overall record. Mallory Turner, who played left fie)d during her freshman season, will shift to third base and

continue to be the 1eadoff hitter this season. She is a product of West Laud– erdale. F ormer right fielder Anna Katherine Nowell will take over duties at first base and Karoline Holsonback will handle the majority of time at catcher. Nowell was an All-State and All-District player at Leake Academy. Cnristen Benson w1Ir see playing time in the outfield. Freshmen and their respective high schools include pitchers Hannah Hassell, a product of Lamar County High School in Vernon, Ala., Lacey Hill, Killboourne, La. , and Chloe Thaggard, Leake Academy; catchers Andi Hannaford, a prod– uct of Magnolia Heights School, and Cayla Myers, Magee; infielders Rachel Davis, P etal; Maegen Ellis, Oak Hill Academy; Mahalia Gibson, Oak Gr ove High School; and Mallory Lee, Quitman;

and outfielders Caitlyn Aldous, Petal ; Katlyn Duke, Neshoba Central; and Summer Lavender, Canton Academy. Chaney said freshmen members of the team are expected to play a key role this season. "Each one of these young ladies will con– tribute to our success," Chaney said. "Ellis, Gib– son and tee w1lI4l'iola down the middle. All four of our pitchers will be freshmen, but each is ta]- ented enough to carry that role. Thaggard and Hill will handle most of the pitching duties. The Lady Warriors were set to begin the new season Wednesday, Feb. 4, against Alabama South– ern College with double– header action in Alabama. The home opener is scheduled for 1 p.m. Sat– urday, Feb. 7 against Holmes Community Col– lege. Special activities are planned including a Drawdown Fundraiser.
