ECCC softball sweeps doubleheader

Thaggard, a product of Leake Academy, went the distance in the circle in Game 2, giving up just two hits and no earned runs while striking out four. East Central used three-run fifth and sev– enth innings en route to the 7-1 win. Anna Katherine Nowell of Leake Academy hit a two· run home run in the sev– enth inning, her first of the season. She also sin– gled in the game. Turner was 2-for·3 at the plate in the second game, with a single and a double, and Ellis was 2-for·3 with two singles. Katlyn Duke of Neshoba Central High School added two singles in four trips to the plate and an RBI. ECCC travels to Wesson Saturday for a doubleheader against Copiah-Lincoln Commu– nity College. Garnes are at noon and 2 p.m.

SUMMIT - Strong pitching performances by freshmen Lacey Hill and Chloe Thaggard fueled East Central Community College's doubleheader sweep of Southwest Mis– sissippi Community Col– lege Wednesday. The 6-0 and 7-1 wins propeJled the Lady War– riors into second place in the Mississippi Associa– tion of Community and Junior Colleges South Division standings. The Lady Warriors are now 30-8 overall and 16-6 in South Division play. Hill, a product of Kil– bourne (La.) High School, pitched a com– plete game shutout in Game 1. giving up four hits and striking out seven Lady Bears. Earlier in the week, Hill was named MACJC Pitcher of the Week for March 30- April 5.
Former West Lauderdale player Mallory Turner had an RBI single in Game 1. Neshoba Central alumna Katlyn Due added twosin· gles in four trips to the plate in the second game. The Lady Warriors scored three runs in the top of the sixth to break open a close game in the opener. Caitlyn Aldous of Petal High School had a two-run double in the sixth. Maegen Ellis of Oak Hill Academy in West Point drove in two runs with a home run in the top of the fourth inning. MalloryTurner of West Lauderdale High School had an RBI single in the seventh. Andi Han– naford of Magnolia Heights Academy in Sen– atobia added two hits for East Central.
