ECCC women's soccer wins, men fall in20T The East Central women's soccer team claimed a 2-0 shutout victory over Meridian CoIJl.lllunity CollegeFriday af– ternoon, Aug. 21, while the men fell to the MCC Eagles 2- 1 in two overtimes. The matches played at MCC's G.D. Smith Field were the season openers for both ECCC squads. TheWarriors fell in a heart– breaker in the openingmatch at Meridian when MCC's Jor– danWalton scored his second .goal of the game at the 104th minute to break a 1-1 tie and give the Eagles a 2-1 victory in double overtime. Freshman midfielder Devon Pitts out of George County High School scored ECCC's only goal in the first ball off a corner kick, with the assist from Omar Gutierrez of Mooreville High School and Chase Hughes of Southeast Lauderdale High School. In the women's matchup, East Central scored a goal in each half for the 2-0 win. Freshman forward Presley McLemore from Brandon High School and sophomore forward Tamia Cavett of Mur– rah High School netted goals for East Central. The women's and men's teams will host Southwest on Thursday, Aug. 27, at 1 and 3 p.m. in DecatW'.
