' L.P. Bassett, center, of Philadelphia is the recipient of the inaugural Thomas W. Carson Award a~ East Central Community College in Decatur. This award was established to honor a retired band director who has serveb the East Central Community College district with distinction and h©nor. It is named in memory of longtime ECCC band director Thomas W. Carson who died in 1 2013 following a lengthy battle with esophageal cancer. To be eligible, recipients must be retired at least five years and have worked at least five years at a school in the ECCC dis– trict.
