DECATUR Evers exhibit opens at ECCC

small farm in Decatur, and a street near his homeplace carries his name today. The exhibit progresses through his time in the Army, the NAACP and ends with his murder outside his Jackson home. Evers attended school in Decatur, but at the time the town didn't have a high school that he could attend. So he walked with his brother Charles to a school in Newton. He would later go on to graduate from Alcorn State University. After fighting in WWil, Evers at tempted to vote at the courthouse in Decatur and was denied. That be came a catalyst that drove him to

DECATUR-It likely would have been impossible for civil rights pio neer Medgar Evers to imagine his hometown honoring him one day. The very place where he was denied the right to vote now celebrates his triumphs and mourns his tragedies in an exhibit at East Central Com munity College.
