LOUISVILLE, Miss. - The U.S. Labor Department is giving M1ss1ssippi's East Central Community College $2.5 m lhon to help Winston County recover from the April 28 tornado. The money will go to help improve worker training and support businesses in the area's manufacturing sector. Several factories were damaged or destroyed by the storm. East Central, based in Decatur, will create the Winston County Manufacturing Recovery Project, creating a team of industry and educational representatives that will guide training and help provide jobs. The program will help workers earn industry-recognized certifications as well as move on toward college degrees. People who wish to start businesses will also get training and support through a manufacturing incubator.
Some of the money will be used to buy up-to-date technology for instructors to use in teaching.
