Improvements have also been made in the areas of parking, pedestrian walk-ways, heating and air conditioning systems and roofs for several buildings, and the Brackeen-Wood Physical Education Building received a much-needed renovation including new seating and a refinished playing surface. The most recent renovation project is the replacement ofseating in Huff Auditorium The new seats will be wider and more comfortable. according to specifications. The project will be completed in late summer 2014. The latest fundraising project is a proposed Football Operanons Center to be constructed at the north end of Bailey Stadium. The estimated $4.8 million complex will include a state-of-the art weight room and athletic training facility for all student-athletes at the College. It will also include a Warrior Room as well as meeting space for the department of athletics and the community. The first phase of the project is the installation of a new synthetic turf field on Warrior Field. A groundbreaking ceremony was held earlier this summer for the approximately $727,000 project, which will be completed in time for the home opener on Sept. 11, 2014. Jobs magazine included ECCC in the lop 15 percent ofall colleges, universities and trade schools nationwide in providing educational services to military students following a survey of more than 12,000 schools. Recent support from alumni and community partners has helped East Central provide financial assistance to many students and to make much needed upgrades to facilities. 1n October 2012, the college received in excesses of S3 million dollars from the estate of Frances Gaines Blum Slagle, a 1940 ECCC graduate and former Decatur resident. The cash, stocks and certificates of deposit were used to establish student scholarships and this gift represents the largest single donation ever received by East Central Community College. As a result ofthis very generous donation to the college, students who are 2014 high school graduates and reside in the five-county district will be eligible to receive "tuition gap-filler" scholarships to attend the 2014 fall semester. Various Endowed and other Special Scholarships are also presented each year during the ECCC/AT&T Scholarship Appreciation Program/Luncheon. Approximately 125 students received scholarships valued at approximately $89,000 at the 2014 ceremony. Scholarships for students are also provided from the annual Warrior GolfClassic. Net proceeds from the 13th annual event held earlier I this summer resulted in $9,850 in scholarship monies. ยท With state and private funding, improvements have also been made to the college's physical plant.
