ECCC Continues to Offer Quality Education at AffordablePrice DECATUR - Since its founding in 1928. East Central Community College has offered the \el) best m educational services to students of all ages residing in the college's the-county support district and surrounding areas. The college aJ<;o makes every effort to offer these services at an affordable cost. The qualil) ofthe education offered at EC is weJI documented by the success ofstudent.5 Y.ho transfer 10 four-year colleges and universities. According to the most recent repo11 by the Mississi ppi Community College Board, East Central Community College transfers have once again earned the highest cumulati>e grade point average ofall community college transfers .u the four-)ear schools. East Central transfers earned a 3.22 GP A Sn.uc:nts from the community/junior college in second place earned a 3 1- Ci'?.\. a:1d the a\erage for all community/junior college students combined ~1!.S a 3 I: GPA, which once again showed that community and junior col ege transfers students performed academically as well or better in unhers1~ courses than students who began their education at the senior institutions.~ ch was noted as a 3.09 GPA. East Central also takes pride in not only offering a quality educauon but also providing an affordable means for students of all ages to fulfill the r educational dreams and goals. The Clarion-Ledger in Jackson took notice of East Central Communit) College's success in preparing students for success at four year colleges and universities while also offering low tuition. The daily ne\\ spaper ranked ECCC # 1 in the combined categories among the state's 15 community and junior colleges. East Cenrral's student-athletes also continue to be recognized for academic success. l\ccording to a recent report from the "\lational Junior College Athletic Association, East Central Community College leads the nation in the number ofcommunity and junior college student-athletes receiving academic honors for 2013-14. The report noted FCCC had 24 student- athletes who qualified for the special recognition in the following categories: Pinnacle Award for Academic Excellence (4.0 GPA); Superior Academic Achievement (3.8-plus GPA); and Exemplary Academic Achievement (3.6-plus GPA). In addition, seven ofthe college's athletic teams were recognized for academic success in 2013-14. Two of the squads - fast-pitch softball and women's soccer - finished second in the nation by posting 3.54 and 3.51 grade point averages, respectively. Also receiving national recognition on an annual basis are members of Theta Xi Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa International. and the College's SkillsUSA and Phi Beta Lambda organizations. When Dr. Stewart was selected as ECCC president in 2012. his goal was to establish a strategic planning process. which would shape and guide the future of the 85-year-old institution. As a result, 2020 Vision was created and includes a long-term desire co be nationally recognized and locally preferred while meeting the educational and training needs ofthe residents ofthe college district. which includes I,eake, Neshoba. ev.1on, Scott and Winston counties. According to Dr. Stewan. :!020 Vision's se\en Core \'alues of Wisdom, Excellence, Accountabilil). Respect, Enthusiasm, Efficienc~ and Creativity (WE ARE EC), "define the institution's highest priorities and deepest-held beliefs." 2020 Vision is also comprised offae institutional commitments: Student Success, Teaching and Learning, Community Partnerships.
