ECCC to introduce new turf mony for a new synthetic turf field is scheduled for today at East Central Com munity Collegeis Bailey Stadium on the Decatur campus. The ceremony was scheduled following approval of the award of the bid by the ECCC Board ofTrustees earlier this week. Activities begin at 2 p.m. on Warrior Field for the new turf surface, which will not only be used for football games but will also host soccer matches and other special events. CR Construction, Inc.. of F1owood was the suc cessful bidder for the eight-week project, esti mated to cost approxi mately $727,000. The field is designed by Eley Guild Hardy Architects of Biloxi. Funding for the instal lation ofthe turffield is provided in part from net proceeds ofthe recently held iLayillg the Founda tion: An Evening with Coach Tony Dungy.i The fundraising event was hosted March 28 at the Neshoba County Coli seum in Philadelphia and featured the current ana lyst for NBCis Football Night in America, award winning author and Super Bowl-winning coach who b abo invoh-edm a rariety ofcharitable organiza tions. "Thanks to the finan cial support from program sponsors - the Rush Sports Medicine Team. Anderson Regional Med ical Center, Valley, and the more than 400 individuals who purchased tickets for the Dungy event, and the East Central Board of Trustees, we are able to begin the first phase of much-needed improve ments to our football facility," ECCC President Dr. Billy Stewart said. "We are also in the process of providing opportunities for businesses and individ uals to help fund construc tion of the Football Opera tions Center, which will be constructed on the north end of the football field. We are very pleased with the response thus far and look forward to com pleting fundraising for the facility in the very near future." Stewart will provide 1 opening remarks at the groundbreaking cere mony. Also participating in the brief program will be Board ofTrustees Vice Chairman Jerry Smith of Head Football Coach Ken Karcher; and Taylor Guild, representing the architec tural firm.
