The Square County Auc tions Scholarship was estab lished by Joe Andy Helton and will be awarded annually to a graduate of Leake Central High School who enrolls full time in the fall following high school graduation. Also establi hed by ~.i:r. Helton, the Eastside Pawn and Gun Scholarship will be awarded annually to a graduate of Leake Academy who enrolls full time following high school graduation. Recipients of both scholar ships will be selected by the ECCC Scholarship Committee. business world until his death in 1980. The Addkisons have two children. Etta Etheridge Carpenter enrolled at East Central in 1953 on a band scholarship. Following her freshman year, she married sophomore Mel Carpenter, a 2006 inductee in the ECCC Athletic Ha11 of Fame, and they continued their education at the Univer sity of Southern Mississippi. Mel began a career in ath letics at Perkinston Junior Col lege and later became Director ofAthletics and a professor at Central Florida Community College in Ocala, Fla. The Car penters retired in Florida and have four children. 1be Etheridge Family Scholarship will be awarded annually to an ECCC student who has completed his or her freshman year in the field of business, preferably with an emphasis in accounting. To qualify, candidates must meet the following criteria: 1) Be a resident of the college's five-county district; 2) be enrolled full-time at East Cen tral his or her freshman year after high school graduation; 3) attain sophomore standing; 4) have maintained a 3.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale; 5) major in business with an emphasis in accounting; and 6) must show need for financial assistance. service as a carrier pilot in the U.S. Navy, he went to work for R&R Hatchery & Milling Com pany, Inc., in Carthage. He later became the owner of this company, then named Choctaw Maid Farms, Inc., with operations in several counties of central Mississippi. Jamie Etheridge Harrell is a member of the East Central Community College Class of 1949 and was selected May Queen her sophomore year. She continued her education at the University of Southern Mississippi and the University of Louisiana at Monroe. She earned a master's degree in music education and taught music in a number of schools before her retirement. She lives in Rayville, La., with her husband, James, and plays the organ and piano at Rayville Methodist Church. The Har rells have one son. June Etheridge Addkison is a member of the ECCC Class of 1951 and also began dating her future spouse, Dwight Addkison, while both were stu dents at the college. The Add kisons continued their educa tion at Mississippi State University and settled in Louisville following college. June continues to teach music education and private piano lessons. For 28 years she has been the music director at Calvary Baptist Church west of Louisville. Dwight had a career in the

DECATUR-Each year, alumni and friends of East Central Community College provide much-needed financial support for students in the five-county district through various annual and endowed scholarships. Three new scholarships were recently approved by the College's Board ofTrustees and include the Etheridge Family Scholarship, Square County Auctions Scholarship and the Eastside Pawn and Gun Scholarship. The Etheridge Family Scholarship was established by Tam H. Etheridge through the T.H. Etheridge trust on behalf of his three sisters and him seli, all of whom attended East Central Community College. They are the children ofJames and Pauline Etheridge of Louisville. Etheridge is a member of the East Central Community College Class of 1953 and was selected Alumnus of the Year in 1998. He served as editor of the Wo-He-Lo yearbook his sophomore year and met his future spouse, Nora Reagan, while she was visiting ECCC at Homecoming in 1952. They have two children. He continued his education at Mississippi State University and majored in accounting. Following three-and-a-hall years of active duty military
