EC Lady Warriors defeat PR, Warriors drop decision WlllJl.ing ways have returned

In the men's game, East Central started strong and built a 23-7 lead but the Wildcats closed the scoring gap to 32-28 at half– time and eventually pulled away late for a 70-56 victory. High School, Akeem Toppin of Columbus, Steven Fuller of Kemper County and Glenn Thomas of Loyd Star, two each; and Keivondre Watford ofThscaloosa Central, one. Yondarius Johnson scored 17 points to lead the Wildcats, who improved to 8-8 and 4-2. ECCC squads continue divi– sion play Thursday by taking on Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. Game times are 6 and 8 p.m. on the Perkinston campus. The Lady Warriors and Warriors host Jones County Monday, Feb. 6. Women's action starts at 6 p.m. followed by the men's contest at 8 p.m. in the Brackeen-Wood Physical Education Building.

The Lady Warriors cruised past Pearl River Community College 75-64 Monday night in Decatur to improve to 3-3 in the MACJC South Division. After starting 0-11, Billy Smith has rallied his troops to win three of the last four division matchups, and the LadyWaniors' only loss during that period was a three-point setback (61-58) to undefeated Copiah-Lincoln last week. Freshmen Xzandra Dowd and Jakela Johnson poured in 12 points each in leading EC to the key division victory. Dowd is a product of Neville High School in Monroe, La., and Johnson bails from West Jones High School.
