ECCC Student Newspaper StaffReceives Awards East Central Community College's student newspaper, TheTom-Tom, was among the top student newspapers in the state recognized during the 2012 O.C. McDavid Jour– nalism Conference held March 29 at the Mississippi Children's Museum ofArt in Jackson. East Central students earned 8 awards in the Mississippi Press Association's Better News– paper Contest in the Commtmity and Junior College Division, including two second place, five third place and one honorable mention awards in the competition. In the Bener ewspaper Competition, members ofThe Tom-Tom staffearned the follow– ing awards: ·Asecond place finish for freshman Claire Griffin ofDecatur, Best Cartoons. · Tbe Tom-Tom staff was also honored with a second place award for Best Front Page. ·Sophomores Rachel Ramire7 of 1--orest and Christina ollie were recognized with a third place award for Best Editorials. · Sophomore Polly Vaughn of Decatur was recognized with a third place award for Best Feature Photograph. ·Sophomore Justin Snow ofStallo was recognized with a third place award for Best Sports Photograph. ·The Tom-Tom staffalso receiving third place honors for Best Overall Design and Miscel– laneous Advertising Design. · Sophomore Dana McKee was awarded honorable mention in the Best Feature Photo category. The Tom-Tom is a student-led newspaper representative of the student body of East Central Community College mDecatur. The staffis led by Nollie, editor; Holli Nutt of Morton, design editor; Rachel Ramirez of Forest, opinions editor; and Meghan Mclntosh of Carthage, features editor. ECCC Publications Coordinator Gennie Phillips of Forest serves as adviser.
