ECCC softball wins five of
East Central Community College's fast-pitch softball from capturing three of school four contests in reports non-division action over the February 10-11 week– end in Andalusia, Ala. The defendingMACJC State Champions dropped the sea– son opener on February 10 by an 8-7 margin to host L.B. Wallace Community College, then reeled off victories over Southern Union (4-3), Wallace State (13-10), and Jeff Davis (2-1) in the L.B. Wallace Tournament. EC swept East Mississippi on the diamond last week to improve to 5-1. The Lady Diamond Warriors seemed to be in con– trol early against L. B. Wallace after jumping out to a 4-0 first– inning lead. L.B. Wallace cut the lead in half after two innings, but EC responded with two more runs in the fourth for a 6-2 advan– tage. However, L.B. Wallace squad began the 2012 season by
rallied for three runs in the fourth and three in the fifth fot· an 8-6 lead. EC managed just one run in the seventh and L.B. Wallace held on for· the slim victory. Haylee ~Roberts and Brittany Pounders collected three hits each to lead the EC offense. Roberts hit a homer and two singles and Pounders blasted two doubles and a sin– gle. Other sluggers included Lajoya Griffin with a double and a single, Dakota Vowell and Kaetlen Brown with two singles, and Marlee Massey, Kelsi Watson, and Haelie Allen 'vith one single apiece. Brown took the loss in the circle, allowing eight runs on 11 hits,through six innings. EC responded to the loss by edging Southern Union later on February 10. Roberts again .led the offense with a homer and sin– gle. Massey had two singles, Gr iffin contributed a double, and singles each were record-
ed by Vowell and A.J. Peeler. Tenna Patte1·son was the winning pitcher as she allowed three runs on six hits in the seven-inning battle. In February 11 co,ntests, EC outlasted Wallace State and held on to defeat Je(f Davis. The Lady Warriors jump~d out to 2-0 first-inning lead against Wallace State, thanks to Pounders' .two-run blast. EC found itself trailing 7-6 after four innings, bul mllied to tie the contest at 7-7 in the fifth, then added three runs in the sixth and tbr·ee in the sev– enth to post the victory. Brown led tho offense with two doubles, a single, and three RBI. Pounders also ingled in a-ddition to her home run. Roberts had a double and sin– gle, Peeler collected two dou– bles, and singles each were registered by Massey, Watson, Griffin, and Allen . Mary Sanders picked up the win.
