Hakeem Wesley, a 5- foot-11 freshman guard from Newton County High School, poured in 15 points to lead the Warriors, who dropped to· 1-16 overall · and 1-7 in league play. EC also got 13 points from LaVadius Lyles. EC trailed 37-32 at halftime. Courtney Mack led Jones, 9-10 and 3-5, with 22 points. ECwomen 84 Northwest 70 Sophomore guard Ja'Monica Orton poured in 17 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the Lady Warriors to an easy 14- point victory over North– west Mississippi Thursday night in a non-division matchup in Decatur. EC improved to 6-12 overall with the win. Xzandra Dowd and Jakela Johnson both scored 14, Jaiannah Matthew bad 11, Kelcia Bufkin had eight, Kurlysha Bell tossed in seven, and Inessa Adams of Horn Lake, six. Dowd was the top rebounder with 15. EricaTurner tallied 19 points to lead Northwest, 8-10. EC held a 40-26 advan- tage at halftime. Northwest 72 ECmen 62 The visiting Rangers pulled away late from a tight contest to claim a 10-point decision. East Central Community College picked up two more wins from on the hard- combined wood last reports week to improve to 6-12. The struggling War– riors lost both of their games to fall to 1-17. This week, the EC teams were scheduled to host Southwest Mississ– ippi on Monday and Hinds on Thursday. EC wraps up the regu– lar season with games at home with Copiah– Lincoln on February 20 and at Pearl River on February 23.
