ECCC photo Four members of the Newton County High School boys' soccer team signed national letters-of-intent during a Jan. 5 ceremony in the school library to continue their careers in 201 ~ at East Central Community College tn Decatur. Joining the Warriors are (seated from left) Jordan Walker, Russ Thompson, Will Thompson and Jesse Vaughn. Standing from left are signees' parents, Ricky and Leah Walker; Kenneth and Cindy Thompson; and Scott and Lisa Vaughn. Also standing is Sam Wilson, NCHS boys' soccer coach. Kenneth Thompson also serves as ECCC soccer coach. Each signee has been a six-year member of the Cougar soccer team and has 14 years of soccer experience. Each player also has a 4.0 grade point average in addition to other honors. Jordan was named All-District for four years. Russ is also a four-year All-District selection and received the team's Golden Boot Award in 2010-11. Will also earned All-District honors for four years. Russ and Will have also played Division 1 "Select• soccer for six years, one with the Mississippi Fire (the youth league for the Chicago Fire of the MLS) and the last five with MS Brilla Juniors (the youth league forMS Brillas of the POL). Jesse's honors include 2009 NCHS Defensive MVP, 2009-10 NCHS MVP, 201 0 Soccer Division 4-4A All-District Team, 2011 NCHS Defensive MVP and 2011 District Defensive MVP.
