2014-15 freshmen in five counties can now attend East Central Community College after graduation at no cost to the students, thanks to a generous donation to the school.

A record donation $2.68 million g iven to the school by the estate of a 1940 ECCC graduate will guarantee tuition is paid for any high school graduate in the college's five county district, which is comprised of Leake, Neshoba, Newton, Scott and Winston counties, an ECCC press release says. ECCC Pres ident Billy W. Stewart announced the guaranteed tuition program today at a press conference on the Decatur campus. The estate of Frances Gaines Blum Slagle, a fo rmer Decatur resident, recently presented the ECCC Foundation with the donation. The funds wi ll be u ed to complete the cost of tuition. Iagle died at age 94 on May 11 in Evans, Ga. She owned and operated Carlson Travel Agency in Sebring, Fla. A Minter City native, Slagle attended Decatur ll igh School and then East Central Junior Co llege, where she was a member of the Warriorette basketball team. Iagle 's niece, Carole Pace Henry of Madison. a 1957 ECCC graduate, was recently honored as ECCC"s Alumna ofthe Year.
