MACJC I EAST CENTRAL BASKETBALL East Central battles EMCC in MACJC state tournament opener from s chool reports DECATUR- Two longtime rivals will battle each other in ftr st-round men's action of the 2011 MACJC State Basketball Tournament today at Copiah-Lincoln Community College. East Central Community College's Warriors, the South Division's No. 4 seed, and top-seeded North squad East Mississippi Community College will meet at 6 p.m in one of four matchups scheduled on the Wesson campus. The Warriors, who finished the regular season at 13-10 overall and 7-5 in league play under fifth-year head coach Maurice Bowie, will be looking to avenge both regular season losses (90-57, 81-77) to the nation– ally-ranked Lions. EMCC, ranked 13th in the latest. . NJCMpoll, brings a 20-3 overall record and 11-1 diVI– sion mark to the single-elimination contest. The Lions are coached by MarkWhite. Other men's matchups include Mississippi Delta (North No. 2) vs. Jones County (South No. 3) at 1 p.m.; Gulf Coast (South No. 1} vs. Itawamba (North No. 4) at 2:45 p.m. and the late game, Pearl River (South No. 2) vs. Northeast (North No. 3) at 7:45p.m. Semifinals are scheduled at 2:45 and 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday, and the men's championship battle is set for 7:45 p.m. Thursday.

Other hitters were Abbie Joiner, triple and single and Lauren Nicholas, two singles, both of Neshoba Central; Summer Alexander of Newton County, double and single; and Chelsea Jones of Enterprise, single. Taylor Bailey went the distance in earning the victory. Bailey allowed two hits and fanned five batters. She walked one batter. Bailey is a product of Bowie High School in Austin, TX. EC's hot bats continued in the second contest and Pounders once again led the offense with three sin– gles and three RBis. Kasie Buckley of Newton County contributed two singles and also col– lected three RBis. Other sluggers were Nicholas and Joiner, two singles each; Laurel Burnett of Neshoba Central, triple; and Alexander and Roberts, singles each. Buckley went the distance in earning the victory. She allowed one earned run on four hits. She fanned four batters and walked two. East Central Community College's baseball team rallied for a 10-3 deci– sion in the nightcap to earn a split of their doubleheader with Shelton State Community College Wednesday in Tuscaloosa. In the first game, East Central (& 4) managed just five hits- a double by Darmaal Moore ofStone County, and singles from Carlos Leal of Guaynabo, Puerto Rico, Kyle Moore of Southaven, Jeremy May of Newton County and Taylor Parks of Manchester Academy. May and 'Vincent Kortbawi of Hale County High School in Moundville, Ala., were each cred– ited with an RBI. Southpaw Bobby Bryan of Cros· sett (Ark.) High School took the loss. Bryan allowed three earned runs on six hits through four innings. He fanned a batter and walked one. In the second contest, the Dia– mond Warrior bats came alive during an eight-run sixth inning, highlighted by Kortbawi's two-run double. A double by Richie Long of Carthage also brought home a run and runs scored following singles by Moore, Tanner Noakley of Ocean Springs and Jerrod Myers of Jackson St Andrews. Myers led EC with a double and two singles. He also collected two RBis. Long had a double and single; May, two singles; Kortbawi and Tyler Brant of Southaven, doubles each; and Darmaal Moore, Kyle Moore and Noakley, singles each. Kortbawi finished with three RBls, and Myers and Noakley had two RBis each. Southpaw Colton Mitchell of Lake was the winning pitcher. Mitchell hurled five scoreless innings and allowed just two hits. He fanned seven batters. ECCC hosts Northwest Missis– sippi Community College Saturday, Feb. 26, in doubleheader action beginning at 1 p.m. at the Clark/ Gay Baseball Complex. -from school reports
