Cochran Inks ECCC Tennis Scholarship Blake Cochran (seated), a standout tennis player at Newton County High School, is shown signing a national letter of intent to continue his career at East Central Community College. Cochran, a recent MAC All-Star selection, was a five-year member of the Cougar ten– nis squad. His 22-4 record his senior year represents the second most season wins for a Newton County player. He finished his career with 68 total wins, second most ever for a male player in school history. He was division champion at his,position and quali– fied for the state tournament every season since the ninth grade. He finished state runner-up once and reached the semifinals on two occasions. Cochran served as team captain in 2011 and recelved Most Valuable Player honors and Most Improved in 2010 and 2009, respectively. Academically, Cochran finished third in his class.
