JUCO BASEBALL ECCC Diamond Warriors sweep nationally ranked Hinds DECATUR- East Central Commu– nity College's Diamond Warriors grabbed a pair of wins against nation– ally ranked Hinds Community College Saturday at the Clark/Gay Baseball Complex. Vincent Kortbawi belted a two-run homer in the fourth inning and gave East Central the lead for good in an 8-3 victory in the opener, and Kortbawi doubled and singled and drove in four Warriors in a 10-0 shutout in the nightcap to complete the sweep. He also scored twice. With the wins, East Central improved to 13-9 overall and 2-2 in the MACJC South Division. Hinds, ranked 11th in the latest NJCAA Division II poll, fell to 14-6 and 1-3. Kortbawi also doubled in the first contest and finished two-for-four at the plate with two RBis. He also scored twice. Jeremy May also had a productive outing for EC, as the former Newton County High School standout col– lected two singles, an RBI and scored on Kortbawi's two-run blast. Colton Mitchell picked up the win for East Central, allowing five hits and two earned runs through six innings. Mitchell, a southpaw from Lake, also fanned two batters and walked one. Right-hander Cal Cossich hurled the seventh inning, allowing one earned run on one hit. May also continued his hitting streak in the second contest, as he col– lected a double and two singles. He also knocked in a run. Southpaw Pervis Mann hurled four scoreless innings in notching the vic– tory, which was called after five innings due to the 10-run rule. He allowed two hits, fanned a batter and walked one. Right-hander Mitchell Wooten pitched the final inning and fanned a batter.
