Tyler Dalton took the loss in relief of Colton Mitchell, who gave up eight runs on 11 hits and one walk in five innings. In the rubber game, EC grabbed an early 3-0 lead, but the Rangers r·al– lied to tie the contest in the third and took a 5-3 lead after five innings. The Warriors tied the game with two runs in the sixth, but Northwest, 29-17, responded with a five-run eighth to take the series and c;ecure a berth in the MACJC State Baseball Tournament this week at Ellisville. Appeal Sports Editor Northwest Mississippi bounced back from a one– game deficit to sweep East Central Community Col– lege Saturday in their MACJC baseball playoff series at Senatobia. Tbe losses ended EC's year with a 28-20 record. EC took the opener 8-5 in 11 innings on Friday, but lost 10-8 and 10-5 on Satw·day. The Warriors defeated Pearl River (10-2) earlier in the week in a tiebreak– er for third place in the South Division. EC 10 Pearl River 2 The Warriors built an early 8-0 lead in beating Pearl River in a playoff at Poplarville for third place in the South Division on May3. EC, 27-18, got all the runs it needed in the first inning as the Warriors scored four runs. B.J. Martin and Tyler Brant had RBl-singles in the inning. EC added four more runs in the third as Fred Hampton, Darmaal Moore, and JeremyMay had REI– singles. Tanner Noakley added a two-run double in the fourth. Pearl River got both of its runs in the third. Martin and Brant both had a double and a singie and Vincent Kortbawi had a pair of singles to lead EC. In the third, Vincent Kortbawi hit a solo homer for EC, while Dex Herrington did the same in the inning for the Rangers. A two-out RBI single from Austin Overall in the bottom of the sixth put Northwest up 5-4. But the Warriors capi– talized in the 11th off the filth Ranger error of the game, putting Kyle Moore on base to lead off the frame. After Kortbawi·s sacri– fic(' bunt moved Moore to econd. Martin sent a shallow fly ball into left field that scored Moore on a play at the plate for the game-winning run. A pair of bases-loaded walks extended EC's lead to 8-5. Brock Ward got the win in relief. He hurled a scoreless 10th inning and allowed no hits. EC, 28-18. turned three double plays in the win.
