EC softballers win twice

School product Summer Alexander also had two singles. In the second contest Friday, the Lady Diamond Warriors sustained their first loss of the season with an 8-2 setback to Indian Hills. EC jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning but Indian Hills rallied for four runs in the bottom of the frame and added three runs in the second and one in the third to clinch the victory. Hitters for EC were Alexander, double ; a nd Nicholas, Abbie Joiner of Ne shoba Central and Kasie Buckley of Newton County, singles each. Buckley took the loss in the five-inning contest. East Cen tral Commu– nity College's softball squad won two of five matchups in the North– east Mississippi Commu– nity College Tournament held Feb. 25-26 on the Booneville campus. The Lady Diamond Warriors began competi– tion by hanging on for a 1- 0 decision over Josh Logan Community College Friday. Taylor Bailey picked up the win and was also credited with the eventual game-winning RBI when her single scored Brittany Pounders in the third inning. Bailey allowed just two hits and fanned nine bat– ters in the shutout victory. She was also credited with two hits in addition to the game-winning RBI. Newton County High

fanned six batters and walked one. East Central began tournament play Satur– day by defeating South– west Tenn. by a 5-1 mar- gin. Joiner and H aylee Roberts of Enterprise had two hits each to lead the offense. Joiner doubled and singled and had an RBI, and Roberts belted two singles and was cred– ited with two RBis. Bailey was the win– ning pitcher. In the second matchup Saturday, EC was unable to maintain a 5-l lea~ after three innings and 1 fe ll 7-6 to Northwest Shoals, which rallied for six runs in the fourth and held on for the victory. ECCC completed tour– nament action by falling 8-4 to Itawamba.
