Hinds tops East Central for state championship

from school reports The Meridian Star JACKSON- Justin Brodnax belted two home runs , while Zach Polzin and Nick Schneeburger also had home runs to help the Hinds Community College Eagles to an 11-7 victory against East Central Community College in the championship game of the MACJC Tournament on a wet Saturday afternoon at Smith-Wills Stadium. The Eagles (30-19} won the tournament in three straight games and will now host the Region 23 Tournament Thursday through Saturday at Joe G. Moss Field on the Raymond campus. East Central falls to 38-17 , but the Warriors - along with Pearl River and LSU-Eunice - will complete the regional tournament field. The winner of the Region 23 Tournament will head to the NJCM Division II World Series May 29-June 5. Saturday's game lasted 3 hours, 35 minutes, not including three rain delays, which totaled an hour and 21 minutes. Hinds never trailed on Saturday. They led 2-1 after two innings, 4-2 after three and 4-3 after four. They increased the margin to 8-4 after five and 9-4 after six. The Warriors trailed 10-6 after seven innings.
