SOUTHWEST AT ECCC Warriors drop season finale to Southwest

Tray Bateaste found the end zone on a 14-yard run but the Warriors blocked Justin Holt?s extra point to stay on top. Loris added a 26-yard field goal to put theWarriors up 10-6 with 2·38 remaining in the first quarter. ECCC Dustin stopped Bateaste on the two-point conversion. ECCC reached the Southwest 27, but a holding penalty and a sack led to a 39-yard punt by Daniel Holtto the 1. The Warriors held for no yardage, but misplayed a punt and began from their 49 with 3:48 left in the second quarter and eventu– ally punted again to trail12- 10 despite outgaining the Bears 174-107 in the first half. Loris put the Warriors Land
covered 45 yards in six plays to get the field goal with Rod Hawkins having an 18-yard run and Brandon Willis a 14- yard carry. Southwest threatened as the Bears reached the ECCC 11, where quarterback Vin– tavious Cooper fumbled with ECCC recovering- on third down. It was a short reprieve however, as Matherne thre~ an interception five plays later that Kendrick Causey returned 47 yards to put the Bears up 12-10. back on top with a 13-12 lead with a 38-yard field goal with 8:44 showing in the third quarter. ECCC had to over– come two penalties on that eight-play, 36-yard drive. ECCC forced two punts by the Bears only to get a block in the back penalty on both kicks. A 33-yard punt by Daniel Holt enabled the Warriors to take a 15-10 lead when Chris Ficklin dropped Cooper in the end zone for a 10-yard loss and a safety with 11:55 left in the game.

"I've never seen so many 2 penalties in my life," said ECCC head coach Brian & Anderson. "I'm not ever going ~ to criticize offi- cials. but they played a huge part in tonight?s 15 game.
