COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -Willie Tindal (Ellsworth CC, Iowa), Chris Ficklin (East Central CC, Miss.) and Cordarrelle Patterson (Hutchinson CC, Kan.) have been named NJCAA Football Players of the Week for games Sept. 9 through Sept. 12. Tindal is the Offensive Player of the Week, Ficklin the Defensive Player of the Week and Patterson earns Special Teams Player of ~he Week.
OFFENSIVEPLAYER OFTHE WEEK
Willie Tindal, Ellsworth Community College, Iowa Quarterback; Ft. lauderdale, Fla.; Stranahan High School
Tindal (5'10" I 175 lbs.) a native of Ft. lauderdale, Fla., put the Panthers on his back and led them to a hard fought 34-29 victory over Iowa Central last Saturday. Down 29-28 with just 1:09 left in the game, Tindal drove the Panthers 62-yards and threw a 25-yard touchdown pass with 11 seconds left in the contest to w in the game. He complet ed 34 of 47 pass attempts for 353 yards and t hree t ouchdowns. He also had 70 rushing yards on 16 attempts and scored two touchdowns.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Chris Ficklin, East Central Community College, M iss. linebacker; Forest, Miss.; Scott Central High School
In a 41-26 loss to No. 11 Northwest M ississippi last Thursday, Ficklin (5' 11" I 185 lbs. ) did his best to keep East C~ntral in the contest. The Forrest, M iss ., native recorded 17 total tackles (13 solo, 4 assisted), including four tackles for loss. He also was credited w ith 1.5 sacks a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.
SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THEWEEK
Cordarrelle Patterson, Hutchinson Community College, Kan. Kick Returner; Rock Hill, S.C.; Northwestern High School
In his first game as a kick returner, Patterson (6' 4" I 197 lbs.) t ied a HCC school record with a 98- yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the B~e Dragons' 45-3 win over Air Force Prep last Saturday. The freshman had two kickoff returns totaling 127 yards. As a receiver during the contest, he had a season high six receptions for 118 yards and a touchdown.
