DECATUR- A scholarship in honor of Ruth Round of Newton was recently established at East Central Community College.

Commerce. Round was recognized as Volunteer of the Year by the Mississippi Hospital Association and Woman of the Year by the Newton Chamber of Commerce. The scholarship will be awarded each fall semester to a student who is enrolled in a healthcare program. To be eligible, applicants must: have a history of volunteer service; be a resident of Newton County; and be enrolled as a freshman or a sophomore student at .. Applications for the Ruth Round Vol– unteer Scholarship are available in the ECCC Student Services office. The award recipient will be selected by the college's Scholarship Committee. The endowed scholarship was estab– lished by Newton Community Health– care Inc. The announcement of the new scholarship was made at a reception rec– ogni zing Round for her more than 22 APP years of volunteer service to Newton Regional Hospital. An ECCC alumnus, Round served as president of the Pink Ladies Auxiliary at NEV the hospital in Newton and contributed more than 40,000 volunteer hours of SPII service. She also volunteered her ser v– ices with the Town and Country Garden ME Club, Friends of the Depot, Newton County Homemakers Council, Newton County Advisory Council, Liberty Com– munity Club and the Newton Chamber of CAr
