The new record surpasses the previous mark of 2,735 students who registered for fall classes in 2004. The fail 2009 enrollment is also a 258-student increase compared to the 2008 fall term, \\hen 2,583 students enrolled at the college. ECCC President Dr. Phil A. Sutphin attributes eco– nomic condWons and the college's "affordable tuition and quality staff" as reasons for the record enrollment. "During economic down turns, college enrollment usually increases as people who may have lost their jobs are going to college to learn another trade or enter a new profession. Some also return to the classroom to receive specialized training to improve their workforce skills," Dr. Sutphin said. "Of course we offer an educational bar– gain at East Central, with tuition at $800 per semester. We also have an excellent faculty and staff who are commit- ted to serving students of all ages." · East Central serves Leake, Neshoba, Newton, Scott and Winston counties.
