EC cheerleaaers · aim for nationals

Fundraising efforts are under way to send the East Central Community Col-lege cheerleading squad to the National Cheerleader Association Collegiate Nationals in Daytona Beach, Fla. April 8-12. The squad, including two area members, received a bid to compete after submitting videos of the group's performance during the 2008 football season, according to cheer– leader coach Hue11en Watson. Members include Cayla Boyd, of Carthage, and Emily Thrash, of Sebas– topol. Watson said the ECCC cheerleaders will compete in the junior college divi– sion against other two– year colleges from across the country. In a letter to alumni and friends of the College, ECCC President Dr. Phil A. Sutphin asked financial support to send the cheer– leaders to their first-ever national competition. Cost of the trip is estimated at $12,000. "The Warrior Cheer-

leaders have done their part and now we need your help in funding their well-deserved trip to the national competition," Dr. Sutphin stated. Squad members also include Randy Carl Arledge and Daniel Cheatham (mascot), both of Neshoba Central; Erin Huffman, West Lauder– dale; Will Emmons, Lake; Jonathan Federick and Adrienne McDill, both of Newton County; Abby McMillan, Daniel Stever– son and Anna Williams, all of Newton County Academy; Kolby Sisson, Noxapater; and Paul David Hatcher, Winston Academy. Contributions are tax– deductible when made payable to the East Cen– tral Community College Foundation, Inc. Contri– butions should also be ear– marked "National Cheer– leader Competition."
