Payton named head · of Childcare Center Debra M. Payton of

board training for the year 2005. She presently serves on the Oprah Winfrey Boys and Girls Club Board of Directors for Leake County and is also a member of Team Leake, South Leake PTO and Booster Club. Payton is a member of weet Water Church of God in Christ. Payton attended South Leake High School and graduated from Southridge High School in Indianapolis, Indiana. She holds an associate's degree in childcare technology from Hinds Community College in Raymond and continued her education at J ackson State University, where she earned a bachelor's.degree in childcare and family education and a master's in education/earl child– hood education

Walnut Grove was recent– ly selected Childcare Center director/Childhood Education instructor at East Central Community College in Decatur, announced Dr. Phil A. Sutphin, ECCC president. Payton, who began her new duties on Aug. 14, previously served as man– ager for the Wonderful World Early Head Start Center in Walnut Grove, a position she held since 2001. In that position, she was responsible for the day-to-day operations of the preschool facility, which holds accreditation from the National Association for the Education of Young Children. Her experience also includes service as a care– giver/teacher for Friends of Children of Mississippi, Inc., in Carthage for 10

PAYTON years.

She is a former mem– ber of the Leake County School Board , serving from 2002 to 200 . During thi::, period she received the Gold Bell Award from the Mississippi School Board Associatton for the highest number of hour in school
