ECCC's HEADWAE HoNOREES
East Central Community College sophomore Daniel Johnson of Union (seated left) and music instructor Vicki Blaylock of Newton (seated right) were among the state's outstanding students and faculty members who received special recognition from the Mississippi Legislature during the 22nd Annual Higher Education Appreciation Day - Working Toward Academic Excellence (HEADWAE) program. Seventy-two outstanding students and faculty members from 36 Mississippi public and private colleges and universities were honored at this year's event, which began with activities at the State Capitol and concluded with an awards luncheon at the Marriott Hotel in downtown Jackson. Shown with the honorees are ECCe President Dr. Phil A. Sutphin (seated) and (standing from left) Lt. Gov. Phil Bryant. HEADWAE chair who served master of ceremonies at the luncheon; Johnson's parents, Burl and Denise Johnson; and Blaylock's husband, Ronnie. HEADWAE was established in 1988 by the legislative resolution to honor individual academic achievement and the overall contribution of the state's public and private institutions of higher learning.
