ECCC campus locked down following death of student The fo llowing statement was released Tuesday afternoon by East Central Community College in Decatur regarding a campus incident. An investigation is continu– ing into the death of an East Central Community College student whose body was found in his dorm room this morning on the Decatur campus.. ECCC president Dr. Phil A. Sutphin said a preliminary report from the Mississippi Bureau oflnvesttga– tion has tndicated that the student died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Dr. Sutphin said the victim's family has been notified and ~ore detaiIswill be released at a later ttme. "This is a very unfortunate incident and the College expresses its sympathies to the family," said Dr. Sutphin. Following the incident, the College was placed on temporary lockdown. Classes have resumed as scheduled.
