East Ce ntral Community College used a solid defensive effort in the second half to knock off homestanding Jones County Ju nior College 87-83 Monday night in area women's junior– college basketball action. ECCC, which bounced back from its first loss of the season, improved to 10-1 overall and 1-0 in South Division play. Jones fell to 7-5 and 0-1. The Lady Warriors trailed 52-47 at halftime, but limited Jones to ju t 31 points after intermission. Rashima Jenkins Jed ECCC with 23 points while Tanesha Brown scored 22. Tawayatha Evans and Mystee Dale chipped in 12 apiece. Kate Hubbard led Jones with 26 points, while Demara Bolton scored 15. East Central hosts Meridian

Thursday night in Decatur.

Jones men 67 The Warriors completed the South Division sweep with a six-point win over the host Bobcats in Ellisville. East Central, which Jed 34-28 at half– time, put four players in double figures. Marquis Wilson led the way with 17 points, while Josh Luckett scored 15, Darron Maxtion 14 and Rod Lofton 11. . Trenton Marshall had a game-high 25 points for Jones, which fe ll to 4-8. Jonathan Woodland scored 11, while LaBarton Jones and Rene! I Collins had nine apiece.

In a previously-unreported game from last Friday, the Lady Cougars blanked Meridian in non-division action. Newton County's only goal came from Wendy McCracken, while Catherine Brand had the assist. The Lady Cougars improved to 9-:3-5 overall. Meridian, meanwhile, returns to action today by hosting Hattiesburg. -Rocky Higginbotham
