Local students earn top honors at FBLA

From staff and reports Several competitions were held during the 2008 Central District Conference of Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) hosted by East Central Community College in Decatur. Local members of the FBLA who participate through the Winston/Louisville Vocational Complex earned honors at the competitions. The vision of Winston! Louisville Vocational Complex is to develop a technology enriched educational environ– ment where each stakeholder has the opportunity to reach his or her maximum potential in a safe, clean, peaceful atmos– phere. FBLA-PBL is the largest busi– ness career student organiza-

tion in the world. The high school division has 215,000 members. FBLAs National Awards Pro– gram recognizes and rewards excellence in a broad range of business and career-related areas. Through state-based com– petition at the spring State Leadership Conferences, stu– dents compete in events testing their business knowledge and skills. Top state winners then are eligible to compete for hon– ors at the National Leadership Conference each summer. FBLA is headquartered in Reston, Virginia, and organized on local, state, and national lev– els. Business teachers, advisers, and advisory councils (including school officials, business people, and community representatives) guide local chapters.
