EC Splits With HindsCCin Fast-pitch Softball SPECIAL TO THE TIMES DECATUR-League play got underway last Tuesday for the East Central Community College and Hinds Community College fast-pitch softball teams, with each team claiming one-run victo ries. ' The Lady Diamond Warriors held on for a 7-6 decision in the frrst game and were nipped 5-4 in the second contest. With the split, East Central's record stood at 8-10 overall and 1-1 in the MACJC Central Division. Hinds' record was 13-14 and 1-1 following the doubleheader. Leah Dennis led the EC offense in the first game with a home run and single. Also registering two hits were Emily Thrash of Sebastopol, Whitnee White and Laura Smith who had two sin· gles each. Singles each were registered by Shenique Brass and Lindsey Stevens. White and Dennis were RBI leaders with three and two, respec· tively. Kristen Pillsbury was also credited with an RBI. EC scored three runs in the frrst inning, one in the second and third stanzas and two runs in the fifth. Hinds tallied smgle runs in the frrst, third, sixth and seventh innings, and scored twice in the fifth. Codee Russell went the distance for EC in picking up the win. She allowed six earned runs on six hits and fanned one batter. In the second contest, Laura Smith led the offense with a three– run home run, which came in the third inning and t ied the con– test at 4·4. Other EC hitters were Brass and Sondreia Hil1ie and Amy Sharp, singles each. Brass also collected an RBI. Hinds scored the go-ahead run in the fourth inning. Amber Smith took the loss for EC, allowing five earned runs on 101flf:c; th"rougliseven mn1ngS.She tanne one batte~anil walked two. The Lady Diamond Warriors host non-division foe Copiah Lin· coln on Thursday in doubleheader action getting underway at 1 p.m. EC travels to Mississippi Delta in Moorhead onMonday.
