ECCC remains atop division after split with Meridian

East Central Commu– nity College's baseball team remain atop the MACJC Central Dh·i– sion standings following a doubleheader split with Meridian Commu– nity College Saturday in Meridian. The defehding state champion Diamond Warriors clipped the Eagles ~ -6 in extra innings in the first game and fell 12-5 in the nightcap. Following the split, East Central's record stood at 25-17 overall and 7-3 in league play under second-year head coach Neal Holliman. In the flrst game, EC scored two runs in the top of the first as Jacob Casey of Union scored on a double bv Dean Williams of Tuscaloosa (Ala.) Count): who later tallied on a single by Brian Jones. a product of Allen County High School in Adolphus, Ky. MCC would later take a 4-2 lead but the War– riors rallied to tie the contest in the third inning on Jones' two– runhomer.

East Central added runs in the fourth and fifth innings to take a 6-4 lead only to have MCC tie the contest in the sev– enth, sending the game into extra innings. EC took the lead for good in the ninth inning when Terrell Hendrix. a prod– uct of East Oktibbeha County High School drove in Clint Coleman of Louisville for the margin of victory. In the second game, the Eagles pounded 12 hits in earning the split. MCC's record stood at 23-18 and 5-5 following the doubleheader. East Central continues division action by travel– ing to Hinds Community College on Tuesday, April 15. The Diamond Warriors will honor sophomore players dur– ing Saturday's double– header with Copiah-Lin– coln Community Col– lege, which gets under way at 3 p.m. at the Clark/Gay Baseball Complex. The Diamond Warriors host division foe Holmes Commtmity College beginning at 3 p.m. Wednesday, April23.
