ECCCAnnounces Atllletlc Additions Another 'Coach Pouncey' Joins ECCC Football Staff

Ken Pouncey ted theWarrior football pro– gram from 1967·81 and won several di– vision titles He was inducted into the College's Athletic Hall of Fame in 2004. Derek Pouncey's father, Ken's brother, is also a former coach. "Dad coached a long time at Northwest Junior High School in Meridian and in Al– abama. He coached football basketball , baseball ....he did it all " said the new Warrior assistant. "We're just a family full of coaches." Prior to joining the ECCC staff, Pouncey served from 2006-08 as assistant head coach, line coach and teacher at Kemper County High School. He was offensive line coach and teacher at Meridian High School in 2005-06 and helped lead the Wildcats to the South State 5A Championship. Pouncey served the previous year as de– fensive coordinator, wide receivers coach and teacher for Philadelphia Pub– lic Schools. He is also a former athletic director and head football coach at Northwest Junior High School and was performing arts in– eon~nuoo On Page 4A

A familiar name to followers of East Cen– tral Community College athletics has joined the Warrior football coaching staff for the 2008 campaign. Derek Pouncey, nephew of former ECCC head football coach Ken Pouncey, has joined Steve Cheatham's staff and will serve as wide receivers coach. The younger Pouncey said following his uncle as a member of the Warrior coach– ing staff "is complete and total excite– ment." "To be on the same field as my uncle coached for those many years is a great thrill for me," Derek stated. "It's just pretty awesome berng here." Derek said he also looks forward to talk– ing with his uncle to and receiving ad– vice. "I've been told I need get out to his house and do a sit-down with him over coffee," Derek said. "I know it's coming...it's just a matter of getting the time to go out there."
