Juco Basketball East Central girls fall at nationals from school reports SALINA, Kansas- A champi– onship season has come to an end for the East Central Community College Lady Warriors who were \ outscored 89-75 by Shelton State Community College in an elimi– nation game Thursday afternoon in the NJCAA Division I Women's Basketball National Champi– onship held at the Bicentennial Cf'nter in Salina, Kansas. No. 13 seed East Central, which advanced to the national competition as the Region 23 champion, fell victim to a barrage of three-pointers by the twelfth– seeded Lady Buccaneers, who made 13 of 26 shots from beyond the arc. The Lady Warriors, who fin– ished 22-8 under third-year head coach Bill Smith, were led by Rashima Jenkins who pumped in 21 points. Jenkins is a product of Airline High School in Bossier City, La. Also scoring for EC were Mystee Dale of Choctaw Central, 19; Tawayatha Evans of Newton, 15; Tanesha Brown of Jackson Provine, 14; and Allison Phillips of Leake Academy, six. EC was five of nine (55.6 per– cent) from three-point range. Brown made four of eight attempts and Dale was successful on her only attempt. Lauren Tucker had 18 points to lead Shelton State, of Tuscaloosa, Ala., which improved to 29-5. The Lady Buccaneers advance to semi-final action of the Consolation Bracket on Friday. The Lady Warriors trailed 42- 36 at the break.
