Juco Basketball Region 23 Finals

The win, which came agains• the same upstart Lady Bulldogs who knocked off E·CCC last week. improved East Central to 22-6 overall and qualifies the Lady Warriors for the NJCMNational Championship Tournament which begins March 18 in Salina, Kansas. In Thursday's action at Mis– sissippi College'sA.E. Wood Col– iseum in Clinton, East Central had an eight-point advantage at halftime (35-27) -and although the Lady Bulldogs went back on top early in a seesaw second half -staved off Holmes for the win. Rashima Jenkins pumped in a game-high 20 points to lead ECCC, while freshman guard Mystee Dale of Choctaw scored 18. Tanesha Brown was also in double figures with 12 points while Newton's Tawayatha Evan~ and former Leake Academy ~ta~dou~ Allison Phillips chipped m srx ap1ece. Dominique Harris led Holmes with 19 points, while Ashley Brown scored 17. The Lady Bull– dogs, who lost three of four matchups with ECCC this season, finished 14-14: East Central defeated South Division rival Southwest Missis– sippi and MACJC state champion Itawamba on its way to the region crown. -Rocky Higginbotham

The Lady Warriors, who made an early exit in last week's state tournament, completed an emphatic run through the NJCAA Region 23 Tournament Thursday night with a 67-62 win over Holmes Community Col– lege.
