Warriors take two from Hinds
EC had II hits with Adam Griffin getting a single and a double. Jacob Casey, Terrell Hendrix. and Jacob Thames each had t\vo singles. In the second game. Joe Patterson (6-5) got the win with Josh Denson earning a save. The Warriors got a triple from George Washington, a single and a double each from Casey and Warren Bowling, and tv.ro sidgles from Brian Jones. Meridian 6- 11 ECCC 1-0 The EagJes clinched a berth in the upcoming ~ACJC State Tournament with last Wednesday's sweep at Decatur. MCC improved to Il-l in the Central DivisiOn and 34-10 overall. In having a nine-game win streak snapped. EC fell to 6-6 and 22-20. In the opener. Lee Swindle (7- lj tossed a one-hitter for six innings to get the win. John Hendrix retired the Warriors in order in the seventh. MCC took a 2-0 lead in the first inning of the opener as Josh Demoney led off with a homer to left-center fie ld and Jarrod Parks circled the bases for a two-out inside-the-park homer. Tyler Moore made it 3-0 with a solo homer to lead ofT the third inning. EC threatened in the bot– tom of rhe third as Jacob Thames walked and Chns Parkman reached on an error to put runners at the comers \\ ith one out. By Marty Stamper Appeal Sports Editor After being swept 6-1 and 11-0 by Meridian Community College earlier in the week, the East Central Commun ity College Waniors battled back to win both games of Saturday's doubleheader with Hinds Community College, sweeping the Eagles 8-7 and 8-4. "They played hard,'' EC first-yt!ar head coach Neal Holliman said of his team. "I was very proud of them. I couldn't have asked for a bet– ter effort. I couldn't have asked for anytlung better than \\hat they gave." The Warnor:. are 8-6 in the Central DI\ISion and 24-20 overall. Hinds fell to 6-6 and 22-14. Mend1an has clinched the ·o. After a sacrifice bum by Jacob Casey, Geonze Washington broke ~p Swindle's bid for a no-hitter wi th a bunt single. Hendrix came home on a sacrifice fl y by Adam Griffin. Parks led MCC with a triple, a homer and three RBis. Shannon Steed had a single and a double. ~ Hendrix took the loss. Jn the second game, the Eagles took contro~ early, scoring five runs in the top of the second inn ing. Justin unscathed.
Worby and Man Holliman both had two-run singles. Parks also plated a run with an infield hit and a bases-loaded walk to Demoney forced in another run. t-.ICC went up 9-0 in the third with Moore getting an RBI single and Holli man adding a sacri fice fl). Steed scored on a wild pitch. A two-run homer to rioht tield by Scott Mosley in ~e fourth ended the day's scoring. Wade Weathers tossed a four-hitter in the five-inning win. He struck out six with no walks. EC starter Jesus Aleman (5- 2) got the loss. Mosley had a single and a horner, while Parks, Worby and Steed each had a pair of singles for MCC. Holliman had three RBTs. Brian Jones had a single and a double and Hendrix had two singles to account for ECCC's four hits.
