ECCC AWARDS inducted into Sigma Theta Tau International, the honor society for nursing. • All 17 graduates of the 2004 Practical Nursing Class were notified in January 2005 that they successfully passed the NCLEX licensing exam on their first attempt. Class members included Katie Burrage-Allard, Valene Nicholson, Genna Pope and April McCurty, all of Philadelphia; Jessica Bricker, Lena; Bonnie Harrell, Keneshia Thomas, Gloria Martin and Celeste Martin, all of Carthage; Vincent McEihenney and Laura Rosar, both of Union; Anne Steptoe, Forest; Shelby Swan– ner, Bailey; Chris Weaver, Louisville; Ashley White, New– ton; and John Johnson and Derek Wright, both of Meridian. Lori Luke and Kathy Elliott served as Instructors. • Diamond Warriors who received post-season honors following their successful 2005 campaign included pitcher Josh Miller of Eysian Fields, Texas, selected All-Region 23 and All– State, and outfielder Marcus Davis of Magee, who was named to the All-State squad. After winning the Region 23, Division I crown, the Diamond Regional at the Univers~y of Arkansas at Fort Smith, where they lost both contests in the double-elimination tournament. The ECCC squad completed season action with a 29-21 record. Dusty Hillman served as Yarborough's assistant. • Two members of the Wall 0' Sound Band were named to the Mississippi Community Col– lege Honor Band for 2004-05. Selected for the prestigious honor were clarinetist Claire Stinson of Clarkdale and trum– pet player Daniel Herring of Morton. .• • Various honors were also pre– sented to members of the 2004-05 Lady Warrior basket– ball following their successful campaign. Guard Kristin Chaney of Newton County was named second team All-Ameri– can, first team All-Region 23 and All-State, All-Star and was selected on the All-Region 23 Warriors advanced to the NJCAA Division I Super

• As is the case each year, numerous ECCC personnel and students received various honors during 2005. Here rs a list of those awards: • Dr. Sutphrn was selected The Newton Record's ·'Citrzen of the Year," for his success in leading ECCC and his involvement in various community endeavors, including Habitat for Humanity and the Greater Decatur Cham– ber of Commerce. He also chaired the Commission on the Future of East Mississippi and West Alabama. • Music instructor Len Bobo had several original composi– tions recorded and/or pub– lished. He also served as dean of the Mississippi Chapter of the American Guild of Organ– ists in Jackson. • Business technology instruc– tor Christy Ferguson received the Phi Beta Lambda Adviser Service Award for five years service and was named to Who's Who Among America's Teachers along with math instructor Gloria McRae, practi– cal nursing instructor Lori Luke, associate degree nursing instructor Wendy Moore and child care technology instru~tor Mary Ann Wright. • Social studies/history instruc– tor Phillip Crenshaw of Meridi– an was chosen HEADWAE (Higher Education Appreciation Day: Working Toward Academ– ic Excellence) Instructor of the Year for 2004-05 and nursing student Jodi Partridge of Philadelphia was named ECCC's HEADWAE student. • Adjunct art instructor Jill Hammes of Meridian had three works of art selected for the Mississippi Art Faculty Juried Exhibition. • Baseball head coach Jake Yarborough received Region 23, Division I Coach of the Year honors after leading the 2005 Diamond Warriors to their first regron championship. He was also honored by the American Baseball Coaches Associa– tion/Diamond Sports Company and was recognized at the ABCA National Convention in Chicago earlier this year. • Practical nursing instructor Lori Luke of Newton was

The Lady Warriors were Region 23 Tournament runners-up and finished with a 20-10 record under head coach Brad Hodge and assistant Zareth Gray. • Todd Body and Amy Ealy, .• both of Forest, were named Mr. and Miss ECCC for 2004-05. Selected as class favorites were freshmen Sherrell Brown of Forest, Micah Lanier of Little Rock, Kurt Nelson of Newton, Tiffany Willis of Philadelphia and Clancy Cleveland of Union, and sophomores Keely Mor– gan, of Walnut Grove, Rich Lachney of Decatur, Shelly Fer– guson of Hickory, Stephanie Culpepper of Forest, Tasha Boswell of Philadelphia, Lynlee Heely of Macon, and Shay Moncrief and Brian Sibley, tiloth of Newton. • Several members of the Col– lege's Creative Writing class won honors at the 2005 Missis– sippi Commun~ College Writ– ingAssociation Student Writing Competition. Misty Smith of Union placed first in Literary Analysis and won honorable mention in Short Stories. Bradley Cook of Little Rock received honorable mention in the Personal Narrative catego– ry, and Rose Kelly of Newton received honorable mention in the One-Act Play competiTion. • East Central Community Col– lege's SIFE (Students in Free Enterprise) chapter was named a SIFE USA Regional Champi– on in the overall competition and a finalist in the HSBC Edu– cation Trust and the Corporate, Investment Banking and Mar– kets Division of the HSBC SIFE USA National Personal Finan– cial Success Skills Competition and SIFE USA Business Ethics Competition sponsored by Campbell's and Sealed Air.
