ECCC to award GED

diplomas at July 18 ceremony

Approximately 250 students have qualified to receive their GED (Gen– eral EducationDevelopment) diplo– mas at East Central Community College in Decatur, according to Gene Davis, dean of Adult and Con– tinuing Education. Davis said the College will recog– nize graduates at the annual GED Commencement scheduledat 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 18, 2006, in Huff Audi– .torium. ECCC President Dr. Phil A. Sutphin will present diplomas. Several graduates will provide testimonials during the special event, including DeeDee Walters of Decatur, Teresa James of Louin and Roxanne Wilson of Hickory. Also providing remarks will be Marcella Sanchez of Flowood, who attends ESL (English As A Second Language) classes in Morton. Sanchez is originally from Trtdillo, Venezuela. Tim Pilgrim of Morton, who attends GED classes inMorton, will provide vocal selections during the graduation ceremony and recep– tion to follow in the Gold Room of Mabry Memorial Cafeteria. ECCC offers ABE/GEDclasses at various locations throughout the College's five-county district. ESL classesare provided in ScottCounty.
