ECCC pulls off sweep of MCC DECATUR- In baseball terminology, the East Central Community College Warriors played for the big inning in Thursday's MACJC South Divi~ion basketball game with Meridian Community College. The Warriors delivered as a 17-0 run in the first half turned a 31-23 Eagle lead into a 40-31 Warrior advantage. Then, with the game hanging in the balance, U1e Warriors ran off 10 straight points in the final .:;ix minutes to turn a precarious 61-60 lead into a much healthier 71-60 margin. 'Ibc Warriors went on to take a 78-66 win. Pierre Barlow and Johnny Hodge both hit a 3-pointer in the first half run, while Hodge sparked the second run with a pair of treys. Hodge led theWarriors with 24 points. Sam Walton had 16, Ricardo Alcantar 10, Bryan Johnson eight and Andre Coleman six. The Warriors improved to 14-3 overall and 5- 1 in the South Division and hold at least a share of t1rst place. "Assuming Pearl River beat Co-Lin, we'll be playing them for first Monday at Pearl River," ECCC head coach Steve Hampton said. "I felt tonight was a good team win for us. "We had a good team effort and did a good job defensively on Oordan) Payne. I knew Oasper) Hall could play and (Dexter) Leflore stepp<•d up and did a good job for them." The Warriors did a much better job of not allowing the opponents second and third shots. "We've rebounded a lot better the last two games," Hampton said. "We've made a con– scious effort to do that. Hopefully, we'll con– tinue to do that. That was one of the better games we've played in a while."
