A group of fmalists for the scholarship will be chosen by a scholarship committee at Forest High School. Haywood Scholarship Established The Sylvia Ann Gr aham Haywood Memorial Scholarship was recently estab– lished at ECCC. The scholarship honors the memory of Mrs. Haywood and was established by her hus– band, William Thomas Haywood. Dr. Haywood ser ved as ECCC business manager and taught accounting from 1951-58. Mrs. Haywood was a member of the ECJC Class of 1954. While at EC, she was an honor student and served as editor of the Wo-He-Lo, the campus year– book. She was also chosen May Queen and sang in the Madrigals. Mrs. Haywood also graduat– ed from Sophie Newcomb College of Tulane University and received a master's degree in education from Mercer
University. She taught English and tutored French in both the pub– lic and private secondary schools in Macon , Ga. Jp 1972, she practiced law in Macon and taught law at Mercer. She died of cancer at age 48 in 1984. The scholarship will be awarded annually, dependent upon availability of funding, to an incoming freshman wh o enrolls as a full-time ECCC stu– dent the fall semester following high school graduation, is in good academic standing, demonstrates financial need and displays leadership quali- ties and good citizenship. The ECCC Scholarship Committee will select the award recipient. DECATUR- A scholarship in memory of Regina Gail Gibbs Rigby has been endowed at East Central Community College. . . The scholarship, which 1s designated for deserving grad– uates of Forest High School, was created and endowed by her husband, Bill Rigby, and their children , Ginny Rigby Ivy and Anse Rigby. Mrs. Rigby attended ECCC where she excelled in the– ater arts and graduated with honors. Shemether future husband while both attended the College. Regina RlgiJy She later returned to her alma mater as an adjunct staff member and directed musical and drama productions. She served as a middle school science teacher for 17 years. . The Rigbys' daughter, Gmny, also attended East Central and their son, Anse, is currently attending the College. Ginny, an honor graduate, served on the President's Council was a member of Phi ' . Theta Kappa, served as presi- dent of the Baptist Student Union and performed with the Ac'cents, the College's show choir.
