Since becoming a full-time math– ematics instructor at East Central, he was selected to atte nd the Lamplighters' conference in 2002 and was the HEADWAE (Higher Edu<;alion Appreciation Day: Working Towards Aca– demic Excelknce) Instructor of the Year for 2005-2006. In addition. Reeves is a member of Forest Bapt1st, Church, where he teaches Sunday school and serves on the board of deacons. He is past president of the Forest Athletic Booster Club and is a member of the Mississippi Council of Teachers of Mathema tics. Reeves is mar ried to the former Patricia Shepard of Walnut Grove. They have one son, Ryan, who is is a freshman accounting major at ECCC and a member of t he Ac'cents show choir. His mother is Syblc Reeves of Walnut Grove, who is now a resident of the Mis– sissippi Care Center in Morton . He as one brotht•r. Sonny, who is retired and lives in Crystal Springs.

"I've been blessed with the ability to talk and I knew that talent would be what a lawyer must possess, so r went into law," Gordon said during a recent inter view in his office at the Newton County Cour t– house in Decatur. Despite the challenges associated with being a judge, Gordon said th e profession "is very rewarding ... and I feel like I'm doing something for my country by executing laws that give our cit1zens their rights and protections." Judge Gordon began his career in 1959 a-; a self– employed attorney at the Gordon Law Firm that he shared at that time with his brother, Rex Sr., and prac– ticed law in Union until1977. He served as Board Attorney for the Union Public School District from 196()..1977; was attorney for the City of Union from 1959 to 1977: served as prosecuting attorney for ~ewton County from 1964 to 1968; and served as attorney for the Newton County Board of Supervisors from 1989 to 1990. He is a graduate of Union High School, ECCC, the Uni– versity ofMississippi and Uni– versity of Mississippi School of Law. Judge Gordon is married to the former Polly Matthews (Class of 1954), who serves as guidance counselor at Union High School. They have fo ur grown children, Craig Gordon (Class of 1980); Teresa Gordon Parker (Class of 1985); Darin Gordon (Mis– sissippi College, 1989) and Brian Gordon (Class of 1993), and two grandchildren. Judge Gordon is a member of First Baptist Church in Union.
